Fashion: Investing In A Waterproof MAC

Frilly Top - Topshop

Are you looking to invest into a waterproof Mac trench coat?

Well, I have just the one for you!

I was really pleased when Protected Species, a outwear brand specialising in rain apparel got in touch about their design-led performance outerwear for women.

Every design detail and technical feature has been engineered for women and blended into minimalist shapes that are designed to be worn anywhere - be that in the town, city, beach, country, at work, or during travel and play.

They wanted to send me a sample so I could feel the difference of their product. With a retail price of £179 for the waterproof Mac I was only expecting good things. Of course the main thing to note here is that £179 for a coat is an above average purchase price for me and I thoroughly take pride in only suggesting products to you guys which I truly believe are worth the hype and the higher price tag.

Ever since Mac and trench coats (Burberry trench coats were a particular phenomenon) hit the the high-streets and made their mark on the fashion landscape I've been desperate to get my hands on my own. Having only owned a couple of designer dupes I was keen to road-test the Protected Species waterproof Mac - claimed to be fully waterproof, fully windproof and completely breathable while incorporating a four-way stretch for ultimate freedom and movement.

Most conveniently, on my first outing with my waterproof Mac the heavens decided to pour open and there I was, feeling completely dry and surprising light after a mammoth shower. Alex stood next to me in his North Face jacket and I'll admit, his jacket felt surprisingly damp compared to mine.

Strangely, it was lovely to look down and see the rain droplets completely untouched and sitting in an array of patterned lines on each of my sleeves.

I know this sounds silly, because of course, what else would you expect from a coat that claims to be 100% waterproof?

But I can assure you, I can definitely admit that I own a fair few coats which in fact claim to be 100% waterproof and definitely don't feel at all the same!

Not only is this waterproof coat practical and versatile, it remains stylish (I've already had so many compliments on my walk to work), lightweight and silky smooth to the touch.

It's a great addition to my work wardrobe and the perfect carry-on, easily foldable and so light you can tuck it away into most bags and forget it's even stowed away inside.

After wearing and testing in both warm and wet weather I can confirm this is an ideal waterproof Mac investment and well worth it's retail price.

In terms of sizing - I'm a size 12-14 and opted for the Medium size. I'll admit, its probably a little on the tight when zipped and buttoned up (purely in terms of how I feel it looks on my hips), so I tend to wear it open as prefer the floaty, lightweight look.

I would have happily opted for the size Large as an alternative. The Protected Species team are extremely helpful and more than happy to offer advice on any sizing requirements too!

It's worth splashing out that little bit of extra cash for the high quality product that comes with it.

They also offer a on-trend parka and city-walker jacket outerwear variation too!

  1. I love this mac, in fact, I'm looking for one for Leeds Festival that is more waterproof than my yellow one I got last year. This totally suits you.
