Bluestone National Park Review: Day 1 - Saying Hello to Nature! | rightupmystreet

We arrived!

I was invited to stay and review the beautiful Bluestone national park resort, nestled within the finest slice of Pembrokeshire countryside!

I took so many photos over the three beautifully sunny days we had here, so have decided to split my stay into three separate posts detailing each day's adventures.

Hope you enjoy!

The Caldey Lodge

We stayed from Monday-Friday in a traditional self-catered Caldey lodge, which could accommodate up to four people (my parents planned to come too, unfortunately they were unable to come and share the fun!).

So, our lodge came fully equipped with a large open kitchen-diner. A separate sitting area, a large wet room and two bedrooms, one double and one twin. The place was pretty huge for the two of us and the main room featured high ceilings and wooden beams (my favourite).

On the first night we arrived, we had already planned a food shop to the nearest big supermarket. We located a Morrisons about 15 minutes drive where we stocked up on lots of greasy ingredients for a full english breakfast every morning.. and various lunch snacks, and some meals we could cook on an evening.

Towels and linen were provided, which is always a plus point for self-catering as it definitely slipped my mind to bring my own. The kitchen featured a microwave, electric hob, oven and toaster, there was also a dishwasher too, so you have everything you could possibly need.

Only thing that was slightly annoying was we had to buy our own butter, ketchup, olive oil etc, but I guess you can plan to take home and make use.

The Nature Trail

On the first day we were eager to get outside into the bloomin' spring and step foot onto the bluestones nature trail. There were a couple dotted around the resort so we spruced ourselves up in our finest walking gear, in my case, pink wellies and a faux fur coat which makes me look like part of the wildlife :)

I was surprised, especially for Wales, how lucky we were with the weather the whole week.. as you can see from my pictures, spring was in its prime, I managed to capture the scenery in all its glory, with the yellow sun basking behind the trees.

It was really fun getting out into the fresh area, now I'm older and I'd like to think 'a more mature adult', I can definitely appreciate a good woodland walk and all the beautiful things around me.  The resort was huge, and even so, was still so peaceful and such a great escape from bustling life back home.

The Wildlife

The fun part was catching all the little birds in action and trying to get a good shot before they fluttered from branch to branch. Robins are my favourite and the start of the nature trail was rife with them.

This one little fella below was definitely having fun taunting me and playing up when I was trying to take his picture. Eventually I caught him amongst ruffled feathers!

Last but not least, the most exciting creature of all we came across in the woods... ME!

Alex kept saying I looked like a gorilla in my faux fur coat, at least I was warm and didn't make us march all the way back to the lodge to fetch a coat.. *sigh men*.
