I'd like to introduce you to our new feline family member, Mia!

A few weeks ago we picked up our utterly adorable new Persian blue kitten

I'd already done a lot of research around the breed and knew I wanted our own for their loving, loyal and lazy nature. Persian's are bred to be indoor cats, with their long fluffy and silky coats, which need to be groomed daily.

I've always been a huge dog lover, and definitely was more keen on the idea of having a lap-cat who would appreciate a good belly rub and snuggles, so Mia really was and has proved to be the perfect choice!

She's been a total gem from day one, and we are totally in love. Yes she's been a bit of a handful, and I won't lie, it is rather like having a newborn child but now we have her, I wouldn't have it any other way. From the beginning I was tooing and frowing with the idea of whether having one kitten would suffice and whether she'd be okay during the day when we head our separate directions to work.

Luckily I'm only about a 10-15 minute walk from home, so during the first couple of weeks I kept popping back to check on her, and now we've formed a routine, shes absolutely fine and with my mum not working (and a huge lover of Mia) she's regularly popping for cuddles and playtime too!

To be honest, she is content sleeping most of the day, and enjoying listening to classical FM, while playing with her various toys during her other waking hours.

She is a part of the family, although I'll admit, it's not been all rainbows and smiles since the beginning - we haven't had the best news and unfortunately found out she has a low grade heart murmur at her first vaccination, only two days after picking her up from the owner.

However, this hasn't stopped Mia being Mia - she's been a bundle of energy and is non stop lusting for cuddles and kisses.

I'll admit, the heart murmur was a bit of a shock; especially since this was completely new to us and we had no prior knowledge passed on from the breeder, and being a Persian, let's just say they don't come for free! However, like heart murmurs in humans, they can be innocent and naturally disappear early on, so at the moment its just a case of keeping check and monitoring it.

With all the running around and exploring shes been doing at home, she definitely doesn't appear to have any heart problems.

Not only is she super cuddly and loving; having a pet kitten is so much fun, and thoroughly entertaining! Sometimes it feels like we have an acrobat in the house rather than a three month old kitten.

Just in time for Mia's arrival I was also gifted this gorgeous kitchen mat from the new country living collection at Turtlemat. My favourite design was definitely the 'Folky Foxes' doormat, with it's countryside kitchen and rustic charm I knew it would look perfect in the kitchen by the French windows.

These mats are perfect to protect a new home as they absorb 95% of moisture and can be machine washed, so I thought it would be the perfect accessory to have in the kitchen with Mia! While we're at work she loves to perch herself here and eyes up the pigeons in the garden.

I'm sure I'll have lots more kitten posts coming soon, and I'm sure Mia will be photobombing the odd few too!

If there's anything you'd like to know about Mia, or what's it's like to have a kitten for the first time just ask and I'd be happy to give some first time advice :)

  2. I love her. She is so cute and fuzzy! Sorry to hear about her heart murmur though 😞 I've had my baby since he was 9 weeks old. It wasn't plain sailing either but I love him so, so much! X

  8. She's adorable! I'm very much a dog person but we're considering a kitten at the moment. I definitely want more of a lap-cat too if possible for all the cuddles. I hope the heart murmur disappears soon.
